Melanie Fuertes-Hunt, MD is board certified in both psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry, specializing in the treatment of adults older than 18 with a variety of mental and behavioral issues. Additionally, she works with patients who are 55 and older—and with their families—in dealing with issues primarily associated with the aging process, such as Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.
Dr. Fuertes-Hunt is the former head of the Elder Assessment Services (EAS) program at Blount Memorial Hospital, where she also served an inpatient hospital appointment for over 6 years. For the last two-and-a-half years, she has also been building her private practice in affiliation with Child and Adult Clinical Associates in Knoxville. She is now seeing patients exclusively at Knoxville Psychiatric Group and the Geriatric Assessment Program (GAP) at Mercy’s downtown riverside location.
She received her undergraduate degree for the University of Pennsylvania and her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. Dr. Fuertes-Hunt completed her residency at the James H. Quillen School of Medicine at ETSU, and her fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at Emory University in Atlanta. She is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics, particularly issues relating to aging.
